Is anyone using the new Google Assistant?

I finally got tired of waiting for N on my VZW N6, so I enrolled in the Android Beta, and have been using it for about a week. So far, so good.

Now I'm curious about the Google Assistant app, which replaces Google Now (OK Google) on the new Pixel phones, and requires N. It looks like it's possible to run Google Assistant on the 6, 6P, and 5X, but it requires a bit of work.

Have any of you done this? Is Google Assistant worth the effort?

I'm getting a Google Home device this week, and I think those use Google Assistant logic (is that the right word?), so this it would be cool to have the same app / logic on both (phone and Home appliance).
